Objects Limited wants to start 2017 right, so we decided to make a small difference by releasing ‘Object: Resistance’, a compilation with all profits going to Black Lives Matter and the Albert Kennedy Trust. This will be a digital-only album because of the massive environmental impact of CD and vinyl production. This needs to be highlighted because global warming disproportionately affects people of colour.
Now for the music: our very own Jana Rush, Eva Bowan, Ziúr and Lux E Tenebris all feature selected tracks from their debut Objects Limited EPs. The compilation also features some lesser known artists. For some it will be their debut release, but all have an exciting future.
Jana Rush (aka 'Ja Ru’) kicks off the album with ‘SpAcE’ a moody footwork track which leaves the senses heightened. Next is Yoneda Lemma, an alias of Katrina Burch, who is not only a part of Laboria Cubonics Collective (who wrote the Xenofeminism manifesto) but also an archaeologist, a philosopher and a musician. Her otherworldly ‘Rainforest Mars’ is immersive, its tripping stretched breaks and woozy squelching melody sounds fresh to our ears.
Kajsa Blom aka Kablam punches in next with her track ‘Vanmakt’ in which tensions rise while spaced out beats build up to an aggressive release. Kablam’s ‘Furiosa’ (Janus) won many plaudits in 2016. Objects own
Ziúr features with her former Mixmag track of the month ‘Collarbone’. “Vibrating with percussive energy” this track is a highlight from her Deeform EP.
The album moves on to more delicate sounds with FLORA’s ‘That Which Is Remembered’. London-born, half-Hong Kong/Malaysian DJ and producer, Flora Yin-Wong recently released her debut EP 'City God' on New York label PTP. She will also feature in PAN’s compilation also out in March. Next up, soulful sounds from Venetia Ludlow’s drifting and salutary ‘Away’. Venetia is working on a release for Objects in 2017.
Eva Bowan’s ethereal ‘Isolated’ from her ‘Ringwoodite’ EP kicked off the Objects Limited label in 2016 and features here. A multidisciplinary artist working in the fields of music, video, photography, illustration and graphic design, Eva is Polish born, but now resides in the UK. The amazing ‘Cretin’
follows by non binary artist N-Prolenta aka Brandon Covington who hails from North Carolina, and has featured on PTP, Halcyon Veil and NON Worldwide.
CouCou Chloe offers a minimal almost beatless piece in ‘renaissance coucou chloe edit’ a track made by 1127, that Coucou Chloe edited. One half of Y1640 this is her solo work. She released on Cream Cake, with ‘Halo’ EP in 2016. Islamiq Grrrls is next with her haunting vibe on ‘Yr Love’, in her own words: ” Islamiq Grrrls makes music and uploads it to the internet. Other people listen to her music. Every song has a beginning and then ends. Sometimes one song ends, and a new one begins. Her songs consist of singing and melodies played on instruments. She likes music by other people and listens to it regularly."
Neybuu ’Tablawalli’ brings her chaotic mutant footwork which features Neybuu’s own distinct tabla playing. I highly recommend following her videos on Facebook where she makes tracks live. Up next is Lux E Tenebris, the former alias of Objects owner Lara Rix-Martin with ‘The Void Consumes’ from her debut solo EP ‘Cyclizine’. Lara is currently working towards an album under the new alias ‘Meemo Comma’.
We reach the final track: Vivienne’s spiritual echoes ‘Prison Song’. Vivienne is working on an album due in June 2017 for Objects Limited.
